state of living
having thoughts and feelings
doing more than existing, having a purpose

  1. Alright, as we discussed, this should work if you put it in context of the stem cell debate. You'll have to work on your criteria more. Look around for some good definitions and think more about the stem cell debate and what sort of criteria are essential for declaring them not X.

    You also might run into trouble with using the term "alive." The term is tricky. I mean flies are alive and we do stuff to them all the time. I think what is the real point of contention may be the idea of stem cells being a person and thus must be held to the same standards. This is like the abortion debate, which is very similar-whether we define the fetus as a person or not makes all the difference. So perhaps you should focus on the idea of "person" or "human being".

    Also, keep in mind that you'll have to do some technical research for this. You most definitely need to go find how they get the stem cells nowadays.
